Art is a hell of a lot easier to selectively consume and support than food or clothing my dude.

it's not about not supporting bad people, is about actively doing something good yourself.
Inaction isn't good per se, lazy cunts.

"it's not surprising that we'd want the artist coming through our speakers to be someone we'd enjoy being around"
Genuinely believe this is a ridiculous expectation but to each their own

Hey don't say cunt that's a bad word.

@snow
until you find out that most people, including probably most of your favorite artists, have done something reprehensible in any given moment of their lives that you might find enough reason to stop listening to them.
It's just a lazy reason to not feel like a bad person, a dumb side-effect of empathy.

They say never meet your heroes and I think they’re right
I say there’s a level an artist’s behaviour starts to put me off their art but it’s got to be real extreme
Similarly if an artist’s personality leaks into their music to an extreme degree then if you don’t like that personality then that can also be offputting
With Kanye I honestly don’t care, I still spin ‘his hits’ and some choice album tracks. Some of his recent lyrics are quite boring in their self obsession but if his musings are matched to a good tune I’m probably still ok with the track

I go a step further and separate the lyrics from the sound.

i prefer to take in music in the most abstracted way possible.. so i usually don't use any headphones or speakers or record players or ears or music..

I mean, there's a difference between not enjoying something and enjoying it but actively avoiding it because 'it puts you off'.
If your problem is not supporting them with your money, pirate that shit, that's still a totally valid option. It wouldn't put you on the higher horse you want to ride on, but it's an option.

Kanye himself comments on a lot of the recent controversy in his song so the separate art from artist thing doesn't really work here.
I'm very much in the pirate it if it's something I still enjoy camp... but this record doesn't exactly have me wanting to come back in general.
I also think its perfectly fine in cases of artists being abusers to be uncomfortable with their music and not want to hear it (and that shouldn't be considered some high horse)

I definitely think it is. People are very selective about this shit, and I've always found it comical. People will listen to varg even tho he's a murderer and arsonist, but fuck listening to lost prophets. Moral high ground.
If most people had the opportunity to get to know the artists they love, they'd probably end up hating them.

This is why I try to learn as little about the artists I like as possible.

If I wrote artists off because of politics I'd have a very, very selective few left to listen to.
