I still think it peaks with the opener. It gets close to that level again with "Space Cowboy".

Her delivery raises the quality of the lyrics regardless of how good or bad they are. I think how personable they are makes them good lyrics.

Her tone definitely carries them, but surely a good lyric stands on its own feet?

In the grand scheme of country lyrics these are merely decent (check STDP for great ones) but combined with the overall sound and her voice they work quite well.

Checked again but it just doesn't work for me :-(
Her voice is a just that tad too perfect/sweet/on tone for my tastes. Like cough syrup. Pity, because I can definitely hear the potential, nice and airy and warm.

listening to this for the first time now and I'm on Love Is A Wild Thing.
I can't tell if I like this or not. Her voice is great but these songs are just...okay.

What I heard was pretty pleasant imo

Happy & Sad, High Horse, Golden Hour, and Rainbow were great. This album was nice, but nothing exceptional. Nothing bad either though.

This is one of the most painfully average albums that seems to get acclaim from nowhere. It’s not bad, but all these AOTY placements is quite ridiculous. It would be like giving Reputation AOTY from everywhere.

It’d be interesting to hear the opinions of hardcore country enthusiasts because this seems to have the pop crowd salivating, with just enough respectable artistic integrity to crossover into other circles. I like it, well some of it anyway, but this isn’t remarkable in any way whatsoever.

Well as I was telling my friend who recommended me this earlier this year, it really probably wouldn’t phase a lot of them. Heck, some of the songs, such as “Butterflies,” “Oh What a World,” and “Space [COMMA] Cowboy,” really wouldn’t feel out of place on a run-of-the-mill country station. Honestly I’ve heard fifty thousand other country songs that sound just like them. Sure the production makes it sound like dream pop at times but I don’t think that would baffle long-time country fans, especially if they flip back and forth between the soft rock station and country station.
I think a lot of people just gave this the nudge because in a realm with so many hardcore conservatives and Trump supporters, she’s a liberal, so I’m assuming they want her to be some new face of the country scene because of that. That and the fact that a lot reviewing this record probably don’t listen to much country music.
I don’t hate this record, I don’t love it either. It’s merely average to good. But all this hubbub around it makes me want to hate it. I think retrospect is gonna be a bitch and a half to this album. It definitely won’t have a long shelf life

you’ve heard 50,000 other country songs? not enough days in a year and not enough years in a life
also let’s not pretend politics have anything to do with this

That last sentence mainly, yeah BrushedRed, I don't hate this but it's so unremarkable to me, and allllll this hype around it and the super -to me- over the top praise it is getting annoys me a little.
