I am a massive, massive QOTSA fan but this album isn't growing on me after repeated listens. I get what Homme was trying to do, but it just feels a little too forced here. There's definitely good tracks, but I found the long, moody ambiances between tracks dulling the pace of the record, which isn't good in this setting considering he was going more for straight-ahead rockers than in the previous album (Like Clockwork, which is a damn incredible piece of music).

I do like Feet Don't Fail Me Now, The Way You Used To, Domesticated Animals, and Evil Has Landed, but none of them are career standouts. Just good tracks. Oh well

...Like Clockwork and Lullabies have some psychedelic elements, and the others a bit here and there.

This is true but not enough to warrant a tag imo

I love QOTSA but damn are they inconsistent. Like Clockwork was amazing and this is so... meh. Everyone says it's "fun"... their earlier albums are fun but I wouldn't call Villains fun. But then again I don't know what fun is

First song is ridiculously fun. The rest much less so.

Yeah the build-up is so good. Feels very cinematic. Then that awesome groove comes in hot.

'It's a lot more subtle than I've grown accustomed to with Homme.'

Huh? This vs Like Clockwork...

Which is more subtle? I know which one gets my vote.

I agree with the guy saying this record sounds forced & doesn't work as a complete album, more like a collection of individual songs which feel unrelated... & most of them aren't particular good either. I quite like Fortress & the closer.

Hideaway reminds me the most of something off ...Like Clockwork (in places)

but strangely it's also my least favorite song on here.
