Agreed, each record was marketed masterfully and they had a central theme, identity, sound that was unmistakably them but different from their past work. I haven't seen any of that for this record.

Reflektor was solid and had a consistent identity but it was too long, like the Suburbs.

3-5 tracks could have been trimmed from both records, but each have grown on me.

The Suburbs is better than Reflektor for a number of reasons, one being that it's so diverse and feels like a musical journey through every style of rock the band felt like tackling. Actually the length is fine, I wouldn't cute anything from The Suburbs. With Reflektor, maybe they should've saved some of those songs for this, given how thin and skimpy on ideas this is.

You could cut one or two songs from Suburbs but it's perfectly fine as it is. Reflektor could drop 3-4 songs and would be much better.

Reflektor is a double album and thus automatically needs more trimmed

I wouldn't omit any song from either, maybe just convert to bonus tracks or move some Reflektor songs to this.

Fantano's review of this was pretty spot on, even though I like Electric Blue.

Can someone clear up to me what "put on our first record" on Creature Comfort and Good God Damn means. In the narrative Win says "she was a friend of mine" so I always thought of it like the first album he heard when he and the gal met. Or is it a bullshit self reference

Am I the only one getting Jimmy Eat World vibes from 'Put Your Money On Me?'

Maybe I'm crazy I could just totally hear Jim Adkins singing those verses...

I think the "put on our first record" reference is self fellatio

Win clearly went to the Mike Love school of self-referential lyricism
