I'm thinking of bumping this down to a 3.5. :/

I really hope the average stays at least a 3.9, this album is better than their others.

Debatable, but it's up there with their other releases.

The North Corridor > Wonder What's Next > La Gargola > Sci-Fi Crimes > Vena Sera > Hats Off To The Bull > This Type of Thinking (Could Do Us All In) > Point #1

My personal ranking of their discog.

What about La Gargola and Sci-Fi make them more enjoyable than North Corridor for you?

The melodic elements of Chevelle are perfected on Sci-Fi, it's some awesome stuff. And La Gargola has the atmosphere and songs that are heavy. Sometimes I feel like this album is heavy for no reason, and there are just some weaker songs like Door to Door and Enemies.

I could see that; I guess I just enjoyed this album's more in your face approach compared to those two.

That, and I like the production values (and guitar tone) here more.

The production is pretty nice, definitely a different style for them.

Only Wonder What's Next comes close in terms of guitar tone for me.

The bass on this is the best they've ever had.

It's so wonderfully mixed.

Their producer is ace as fuck.

"weaker songs like Door to Door"

That track is one of the best on the album.

Enemies really grew on me. Shitty beginning to the song but the chorus basically saves the whole thing.

Are we listening to the same Enemies? That chorus is just blah-blah-blah-blahblahblah while the vocals follow the exact same pattern. I don't see how there's any enjoyment to be had in this.

I find nothing redeeming about it, the only track here that isn't totally useless is Punchline and that's mostly because you're just happy to not be hearing the same damn song over and over again.
