Tbh, I have only listened to Beggars maybe 10 times. I felt it was a very underwhelming follow-up to the Alchemy Index and it never grabbed a hold of me.

dbiz that's how I felt for the longest time and then ashcrash convinced me to give it another try after quite a few years and i think it's easily their best now, you should give it another shot

I'll try it again. I remember listening to it in full a couple years ago and still just being indifferent, but I love Thrice enough to try again.

I just got to give this my full attention and there are some hits and misses, but overall I think this is something I will end up coming back to now and again. The closer was really good, except the lines "You're here but you're nearly a hologram. Here, still so far away." could be have been replaced by something way better.

Also, a little pissed at how good Wake Up sounds only to fall apart with a chorus that doesn't even try. I made sure to listen to this again without reading song titles since I'd read so much criticism for and against them and still this stuck out as pretty lame. This album is weird.

Agree so hard, a really great song with the worst chorus of their career by a huge margin

Air is definitely the best EP but Fire/Water work better together so yeah

Fire took a long time for me to dig. I felt like if Thrice was going to abandon their heaviness (basing this all upon the other 3 EPs in the set circa 2008) that I wanted something heavier than Fire to fill the void. But, after all these years of considering it the weakest of the bunch, I think Fire almost stands up to Water and is better, at least as a whole, than either Air or Earth which both contain some of my favorite Thrice songs over the last 10 years.

Everything's better than Earth. lel

But yeah Fire has some amazing heavy stuff (the messengerrrr), it's the anthemic rock songs like Burn the Fleet that don't do much for me at all

Speaking of favorite Thrice songs, I wish they'd make/made a studio version of So Strange I Remember You. The live cut from the EP is a slice of heaven.

No, I know that exists- and it IS probably the best song there. I just mean a studio recording of the version from the If We Could... EP. It is waaaaay better than the original.

oh right I thought you meant a studio version in general

you're probably right, but there's some magic about the If Only version that I don't know if they could recapture. It's like when Manchester Orchestra did that fantastic sludgy version of Wolves at Night live - I would love a studio version because it's way better than the original but it just has that live spark
