Lives up to the hype imo, though takes a few listens to click, or at least it did for me

All the reincorporation in Evan's words, intentional or not, is just astonishing. I mean, some of this is so, so well-written. Even just the use of repetition, and homophones, and assonance in a song like Cadmium is impressive as hell, but he manages to keep this going through most of the songs on the album, and even between songs. Once again, I'm not too sure how intentional this is - perhaps Evan's just a very consistent character - but it makes the album feel that much more genuine and well thought out. We could assume it's intentional because of how the band structures the tracklisting with Old Friends and New Friends, and the consistent reference to location as per the album's title. Regardless, though, this album's just so well crafted. It's magical, and to think how seamless and natural it appears... As someone said, it's almost conversational. God, I'm gushing.

The writing alone is such a huge improvement over Meridian. I love some of the light/bouncy sounds from that, but a lot of the songs lacked lyrical depth imo. Cardinal just resonates like no other album I've listened to

As far as ESF goes though, Need/Need 2 crush it and I can't believe how little attention I used to give &. I actually like it better than the Audiotree version, which I can't say for the other songs in that session

It took me a bit to bump it myself, but it's been half a year and I'm still listening almost daily. Glad you're liking it pretty well too

I don't like Then Again and I tend only to listen to individual tracks on this. If that was aimed towards me, I've made it clear what I love about this album and also what I don't; I gave it a positive rating, and I'll bump it if/when my opinion shifts, not because of any kind of ego, man.
