Boring drumming. Mangini is a beast, stop being a puss and let loose

Has he ever been an interesting drummer though?

I've never heard Mangini play anything other than covers and the recent DT stuff, so.... good question.

Lol Mangini is one of the best drummers alive, but they give him nothing to do. Check some vids of him on YouTube.

This 100%

He`s an awesome drummer but is trapped in his new position. Saw him live with Extreme in 95, insane performance.

Review could use a proofread.

"The Ashtonishing"

"Ofcourse"

And just the overall structure could use some work. Loads of short, snappy sentences that kinda ruin the flow.

@Gleam

What do you think about Images, Awake, ACOS, and Scenes.......being that you don't have any of them, or almost any Dream Theater for that matter, rated?

Images and Scenes are pretty good, although I don't really come back to them anymore. I grew up with those two albums and I'll always regard them as great albums within their respective genre. Awake and ACOS are also solid, but Images and Scenes are easily their best works imo.

By your ratings, I can see you really like it, but I don't. It doesn't feel very organic on the ears as it carries a robotic feel to it most of the time, and it is also VERY tedious and long-winded, in my opinion. Quite a dragging bore for me. However, I can appreciate what they've done with the album concept on that one.

yes i find it to be some of their best material, and extremely organic or pure if you will.....and right near the top from a progressive standpoint

I beg to differ, although they've released far more mechanical-sounding stuff over the past 10 years (Systematic Chaos, for example, is a record I can't even give merit to, it's excruciatingly bad). I get where you come from, Titan. Let's agree to disagree.

i can agree that SC is among their worst......this is superior to it imo

Wouldn't choose between one and the other. Both are terrible in my personal opinion. I actually found A Dramatic Turn of Events slightly better than this, the self-titled album and SC.

well coincidentally, a lot of your opinions are spot on with the current overall ratings with most of the albums we spoke about!

Jordan Rudess is the most uninspiring keyboardist out there. Every single song on this album and their previous two albums sound so glaringly same that it's a shame, and it's mainly because of Rudess' keyboards are so bland. It's like rice with nothing else.

What would this album be like is Myung and Mangini had much more role in the creative process, I wonder?
