He’s probably the best pop artist of the 80s (next to Kate Bush probably i still haven’t checked her discog but there are similarities)

He was bloody big in the 80s/early 90s. The yoof were put off him because of the associations with ‘dad rock’ but his material cannot be argued with. It’s amazing stuff.

Never gotten properly into anything he's made but from what I've heard I think I like his solo stuff better than Genesis

Peter Gabriel was a pioneer in several things aesthetically when he was in his band Genesis. Years before Kiss put on their trademark ludicrous amount of makeup to cover up the fact that they weren't very great at all, Peter Gabriel would burst on the stage, with eccentric narratives before each song, dressing up in costumes, and with ridiculous amounts of makeup. Yikes!

This must have been an influence on Reznor. I'm surprised he didn't mention Gabriel anywhere. Unless I missed something.

Up is ridiculously underrated.
Since the 21st century kicked in Gabriel has been massively overlooked. He’ll cark it and there will be a resurgence of interest and everyone will say how much of a genius he was.

I wanna ask: based on his 80s output, should Peter Gabriel have a new wave tag?

Something like: progressive rock/pop rock/new wave or progressive rock/pop/new wave?
