I think Gloria is a very good song, better than the new one, but it is nowhere near the quality of Waves, A Night on the Town, Is There Anybody Here or Bittersuite IV+V imo. But really we are just splitting hairs between many different SOTY contenders. My top 3 songs of the year of 2015 were Waves, Is There Anybody Here and Bittersuite IV+V. No other band got a look-in.

it kills all those songs imo, only thing on here that can stand up to it is Ouroborous and maybe Abandon but ye

@BigPleb the sheer quality of the music makes it worth a jam. Casey Crescenzo is, I think, one of the greatest and most creative musicians/composers of our time.

Sounds like the kinda prog I hate tbh but I'll give it a go.

It does have progressive structures and a concept running through it. Other than that though I wouldn't call it prog. It's more baroque pop rock with a LOT of classical elements, SOME disco and a general undercurrent of straight alternative rock. It's never crazy and weird or wanky like a lot of prog. Everything that exists in the dear hunters' music is melodic and serves the melody, so it's quite "pretty".

My description of TDH was always "imagine a cross between Coheed & Cambria and Panic! At the Disco, but much better than either of those bands". But I don't think it really applies anymore since they really took on their own life and classical style in act iv that is way beyond either of those bands.
Act IV is their best album but if you want to go for something much more in-line with emo then act II is awesome.

I'll concede. I'm not overly familiar with those other bands but from what I've heard, TDH seem to have broken free of the comparisons with Act IV by focusing on sounds that aren't as much explored by those other bands, I think. I meant way beyond as in way outside of the venn diagram that those bands operate in in terms of style/genre. I didn't mean way beyond as in hugely superior. Like how Owl City's use of electronics is way beyond the use of electronics in Nirvana's music. Doesn't mean to imply Owl City is better. Pointless analogies aside, I still think The Dear Hunter are one of the best bands around these days.

Gloria's vintage TDH, gonna have to give this new single a few plays before I decide. Don't know if Act V will top Act IV music-wise, but I'm pretty excited for where the story's going at this point

Okay I like Revival a fair amount. Sounds kinda like Migrant (which I liked) and some middle/late parts of Act IV. Digging the horns featured so much through the whole track, but it kinda has a new sound/tone to it altogether, which I like most. Pretty cool that Casey can still make that happen in the fifth act

The new song is okay I guess but not as interesting as the best cuts from Act IV

I appreciate the callback to Ouroboros. It's pretty straightforward in terms of lyrics/story progression though. Definitely used to a little more subtlety than that

I honestly wasn't too impressed by Gloria. Act IV also had a couple filler songs, which is kind of sad for an act, as I think Acts 1 and 3 had zero filler. (I'm kind of a fan boy)

"The new song is okay I guess but not as interesting as the best cuts from Act IV"
I agree. It's a good song but it's not as memorable as most songs on here
