@BladeRunner: I'm pretty sure Katatonia are doing a separate tour from Amorphis...but what show are you going to? I'll be going to the one in Tampa myself.

The show was this past Saturday. It was the New England Metal and Hardcore festival at the Worcester Palladium. It was a two-day festival, but we just went on Saturday. The acts we managed to catch were Angel Vivaldi, Delain, Caspian, Hammerfall, Amorphis and Katatonia. Amorphis was amazing, but their set was far too short. Then Katatonia went on and their set was just fantastic. The only issue with the night was my wife getting smashed in the face by an errant mosher. After Katatonia, we were beat, so we didn;t hang around for Sabaton. I am not a big fan of those guys, so no big deal there.

Together with Silent Waters, this is definitely the greatest album of their "newer" style

I really need to give time to Silent Waters. This is the only album I've ever heard by them...

You can't go wrong with any of the last 6, even though in my opinion Eclipse is maybe a little bit underdeveloped, The Beginning of Times a bit generic and Circle suffers a horrible production, but they all are great nontheless. This and Silent Waters are best Amorphis yeah

Most people don't like their mid era, though.

Mid stuff is mostly weak, but I think Am Universum is underrated as hell. Not too big on this band, but it is one of my favourite album of theirs.

Interesting. Not to be too pedantic, but when I think of Norse Metal, I think of songs of Odin, Thor, Loki, Viking spirit, Berserkers etc. and one particular band comes to mind.

Amorphis' tales relating to the Kalevala are as interesting, but center around a completely different universe. Legends of Ilmarinen's Sampo, the Swan of Tuonela, the stringing of the Kantele, are some of the most magical stories ever written, and Amorphis manages to represent them perfectly through their songs.

I'd go as far to say that this album is even better live. The venue I saw them at was small, but they still put on a great show and carried themselves like they were 20 years younger.
