I love Sometimes Life Isn't Easy. Top 3 Mew song for sure. Guess I didn't think of it as a closer or that it's particularly epic. It's just awesome.
I think I explained my case in the last comment though.
@SunlightCityDrive this is nothing like GHK. GHK is my favourite too. This album sounds more like a Bloc Party album than it does GHK. It's still good though. It's fun in a very different way.

I've just always kinda lumped their last two songs as closers at least with +-, No More Stories, and GHK. On all 3 of those albums the last 2 tracks are probably the best on all of them. "Comforting Sounds" is probably the best on Frengers, too.. "Zanzibar" and "Carry Me to Safety" just don't live up to that standard for me. Guess it's just the epitome of a first world problem.

I only like Silent Alarm era Bloc Party & most music of this ilk doesn't do it for me anymore. Mew were always a shining light in an abyss of mediocrity for me so I was hoping they still would be. I'm going to jam their old stuff again, hopefully I still dig it & then I'll check this out later. Thanks.

I'm not saying Carry Me to Safety is a perfect closer. I just think of it as a song in isolation, and it's a great song at that. Maybe if I'd heard it for the first time in the context of an album, I'd have been a little underwhelmed. But when I first heard it, I had no idea where it was in the album, I just heard Mew's newest single and I loved it. It has a great bridge/outro/climax or whatever you want to call it. I love a huge, epic song as much as the next guy, but it's not a necessity for a song to be great. And again, I do think it is an epic song despite not being very long. It's like the closing song on The Graduate's Only Every Time. That song is epic as fuck and it's less than 3 minutes long!

I mean the last 2 minutes of "Rows" alone is epic. and then the "Comforting Sounds" vibes before that.. I'm about to jam again.
A lot of Visuals had me wanting them to go wild or spontaneous like this album did. I think this album is just a lot better than people give it credit for. Love the spontaneity. Visuals had me missing it.

@Sunlight it doesn't hurt to at least check this out. It's not THAT far removed from No More Stories. Just a bit more indie pop. Still the same general aesthetic though.

To me, +- is just a poppier No More Stories. I think that's why I love this album as much as I do. If you love NMS then this album should be up your ally, but apparently then again my opinion isn't the popular opinion so idk. It's not quite as good or whacky as NMS (personally the best Mew album), but it's a lot better than a 3.6. At the very least, it should be a 3.9-4.

The stylistic gap between GHK and NMS is way bigger than the gap between NMS and +-
In fact I'd say GHK is very much the odd one out in their entire discog.

Also, my least favorite. Love you Minty, but it's the weakest, sorry.

'In fact I'd say GHK is very much the odd one out in their entire discog.'
It's certainly different from Frengers/No More Stories... I can appreciate those albums in their own right but GHK was always a little bit Special to me (capitalised 'S' definitely intentional).
