To Iai...

1. Earlier, you refered to the song Triad as filler, when it isn't. Disposition, Reflection, and Triad are all meant to be part of the same song. The same goes for Lost Keys (intro for Rosetta Stoned) and Eon Blue Apocalypse (intro for The Patient). Parabola should never be counted as filler, since without it, Parabola wouldn't be nearly as awesome. If Parabol is filler, then so is Wings for Marie.

2. "Filler" is a term used to describe a song that is just meant to use up extra space on the album so it will be better for the masses. The "filler" tracks on Tool's albums are supposed to add to the atmospher of the album; if they were just there to take up space, they wouldn't be on the album.

3. They most definetly have changed since Lateralus. 10,000 Days is heavier (not "much heavier," but still heavier), and the riffs are chuggier, as demonstrated on The Pot, Jambi, and Rosetta Stoned. On Lateralus, it wasn't as chuggy; the songs were more melodic, as demonstrated on Schism, Disposition, Reflection, The Grudge, and The Patient.

4. If Tool restrained themselves and wrote shorter albums/songs, they would sound exactly like all of the bands that try to rip them off (Earshot, for example).

I've had no desire to listen to this album lately. It's not a total loss, though. The packaging sure is nice and I like to burn things with the stereoscopic lens.

to Scourge, Earshot does sound a lot like Tool, and that is why they have gotten SOME respect, but nobody these days can do what Tool has done, maybe Breaking Benjamin IMO.

Breaking Benjamin, can pull off what Tool has done? Breaking Benjamin shouldn't even be in the same sentance as Tool.

Their songwriting is better on every album (BB). But hey, this is a Tool thread, and nobody can ever do what Tool has done for modern rock, period.

hhmm, Canon, have you ever heard a whole Tool album? If not, you shouldn't jump into conversation.

Tool can easily be considered a classic band from the 90's, can't say the same as Breaking Benjamins. This Message Edited On 09.16.06

Is Animosity your latest? I've been away from Sputnik for quite some time.

I missed Tool last night in K.C.

yes it is. I did it like the people on Ultimate Guitar and how they do their reviews.

i missed the Tool show in West Valley, Utah on August 29. Some of my friends went while i was working, they said it kicked ass.

the song 'right in two' gets stuck in my head EVERY time i listen to it. i end up singing to it. this is a song that will be a Tool classic, much better than Vicarious on this CD IMO. it will be hard to debate who can choose the better Tool song, there are so many good ones.

off topic....I've been trying to figure out ways I can come back to Sputnik more and enjoy it. But it's kind of like playing a guitar, if you don't enjoy it and have the passion for it, you might as well just quit. Too much shit going on w/ me to write great reviews. But I'm trying to work it out.

I heard rumors that this might be Tool's last album, anybody have any feedback on this?

its more on the lines of having the time and motivation. I started on a STP review and don't know if i'll finish it.

Yeah if Tool takes 3-4 more years to put out another album, Maynard would be in his 40's then. Thats crazy to think about.
