True, it is very much a taste thing. I like me some melodic soloing. But Metallica can definitely do the insane intensity stuff like Damage, Inc. and Dyer's Eve., obviously not to the same extent though. You get more within a Metallica album than a Slayer album, I guess that is my point. And that is why I prefer prime Metallica.

Slayer's late career is way better than Metallica's late career though.

'The solos are meant to be erratic and chaotic'

I get that it works fantastically sometimes. Raining Blood's solo is iconic for a good reason. But I feel like they play that card too much to the point it gets tiring. I just don't they are always necessary.

Best album art agreed

Some days its Hell Awaits, some days its Seasons, this, Reign In Blood...I dunno really depends on the day

It's never really their first album though lol - it's solid, but to whoever said "their first 3" I mean that is just like Slayer before they figured out what the hell they wanted to be imo

Calling Reign In Blood lazy might be one of the dumbest takes of the century

Me?

Yeah, your comment implied that they decided to be lazy after Show No Mercy. Since I said that was the album where they were still trying to figure out who they really were.

The four albums after Show No Mercy are certainly not "lazy" by any stretch of the imagination, especially Reign which is absolutely off the wall insanity.
