In terms of dynamics sure I guess but the songwriting is so lush and each song is so different I don't really care. Plus each dynamic offered to me sounds incredible, has lots of room to breath and makes the slower songs sound so much more atmospheric.

Sonically each song still has that certain clean sound production-wise, that's what I'm referring to.

Yep I see where you coming from, no probs. You ever checked pre-Uroboros Diru?

Not yet unfortunately. I'm planning to in the near future although I have no idea where I'll start.

I'm really not the best person to ask since I think Uroboros onwards is so much better but I thank Gauze is essential and a Visual Kei classic. This review sums up why it's so good, plus there's a PV for every song so you can watch it along like a movie. Takes a few listens to warm up too but it's so good: http://www.sputnikmusic.com/review/65515/Dir-En-Grey-GAUZE/

Initially thought to just go backwards chronologically but then somehow got the impression that the latest three were superior to their previous releases and that the albums before were a mixed bag, so why go 'backwards'. Then again, of course I'm curious what their older stuff might sound like. But all the way to the start you say...

It's very different from their newer material, so don't go expecting something like that. Especally their first three.

Uroboros onwards destroys previous works, but it's all a collective journey up to the start of uroboro; they really hone in on all the styles they've experimented with and create this unique, dark sound. Plus I love the fact the last three albums take years to truly get your head round. Hell, still finding new and exciting things with this album.
