shit like this has a time and a place i get you. but after like a night of just jamming swans and iceage and AAAAAAARRRRGGGGGGGHHHHHHHH shit sometimes i need a cold cider and some hear some whimsical shit rooted in probably fakeass nostalgia
|

all these bands recently in melbourne who spend all their time writing clever sounding one-liners that have no real meaning beyond some trivial togetherness or communal or self-depricating shit then mashing them together into a song
only one that comes to mind from that description is smith street

ive heard some right dodge shit about Dads so its a relief their last album made it easy for me to stop caring about them
|
| |
but back on the front bottoms thing like there's really nothing wrong with doing that with lyrics like that has its place and i like a lot of really meaningless pop music like ive been listening to matchbox 20 songs on youtube all night so i dunno what i'm talking about
|
| |
will pretty much all my friends write their lyrics that way. have u ever really listened to georgia's songs? theyre the worst

i cant vouch for melbourne obviously but its weird and kinda annoying how a lot of DIY bands in the UK are tryna do their best to rip off Modern Baseball instead of writing multi-faceted songs like Twin Size Mattress like come on wheres the effort guyzzzzzzz
|
| |
i dunno most of georgia's lyrics are just about her life and the only friends of yours i listen to regularly are her and jerome whose songs are really good
|
| |
i got a lot to say about songwriting but its really all meaningless in the end n i'll probably end up throwing shade on so many people for something that doesnt really matter. it gets me upset when ppl like tom denton don't get recognised for incredible and cohesive and meaningful songwriting when a lot of real shitty musicians become popular out of pure luck/connections. but thats music. yknow
|
| |
jerome is probably the worst at what i'm talking about but his songs are ironically probably the best out of all of em. dont u like foley or max goes to hollywood?

i could ramble incoherently bout how ppl arent writing honestly and so on but it doesnt do no one any good in the long run + just makes me seem like a cunt probly also i still havent really worked outmy own feelings on the matter. will r u 18 yet? we'll get drunk n get into it sometime
|
| |
music's ok. have u heard 3 AM by matchbox 20?
|
| |
i like foley and max goes to hollywood but not enough to listen to them a lot. like once in a while when i want that sort of thing but there's better folk punk out there anyway.
tom was fucking amazing when i saw him live (there's a really long song about him and his little friend that floored me) and terminal grouse is amazing but i dunno why he's not popular
i'm 17 in march unfortunately or else i'd go to all yours and tom's and everyone's gigs (my parents don't let me out at night much)
|
| |
cus popularity only sometimes arbitrarily corresponds with actual quality. also foley's album that's coming out is good but i demo'd their SECOND ONE and watch the fuck out for that one dude. i'll send you a track if you want
