The "more singing" is also better, Mr. Moore.

Gotta love how we're debating which album is not quite as fantabulous as the other lol.
Cynic rules.
|

That wasn't even slightly witty.
Yeah but you would've said something like that to any response I had so eff u.
Focus was just boring for me. Traced has production coming out its ass, better cleans, better growls and it flows like a mofo.

Better used perhaps (though I disagree). Better sounding? Naaaaah

I don't really see how people could like the guy on Traced in Air more, he's basically a weaker version of this guy, still good but ya.

I kinda agree with that too chan. The section in Integral Birth where they come back into the heavy stuff after that awesome soft break, when he says "home", the supporting growl seemed like a definite attempt to sound more metal, as you said. Still love it though.
I love how all of a sudden we're all itching to discuss Cynic and TIA cause it was supposed to drop today and we'd have had like 3 reviews up to post all this crap on lol.

Drums, production and clean vocals are best on Traced In Air.
Guitars, bass and harsh vocals are better on Focus.

I'd say the guitars are about equal. The bass work is most definitely more impressive here, but actually, I prefer it's usage on TIA; it functions more like I'm used to what bass is supposed to do (keep/control the rhythm/temp, create minor supporting melodies, hop-scotch between and create contrast with the rest of the higher-pitched sound [guitars, symbols, snares, cleans] ect.)
Here, the bassist seems to think he's the lead guitarist half the time.

guitar sound on focus is bad
too much going on for that type of production
scooped midz!!

if you're one of the people who "don't like the robot vocals" then you can basically put this album down and go listen to Traced. but, if you understand what those vocals represent and how they tie in with the message/lyrics of focus then you can really enjoy this album. maybe focus means more to me because i'm into the same things ie eastern mysticism and all that but i advise those who don't like the robo vocals to read the lyrics and pay attention to the meaning of the songs and then i hope something "clicks" for you.

some of the growls on traced in air sound like they were put there just to make the album seem "more metal." not necessarily a bad thing but some of them sound a bit out of place.
This.
I also wish they gave Tymon more vocal parts, I feel like they laid down the tracks without him and just inserted his growls where they saw necessary .

i knew i would be setting myself up for that! its hard to explain! i mean listen to how the type of vocals they use correspond to the lyrics being sung with that type of vocal ie clean/brutal/robo! but based on your attitude about the vocals i doubt it will matter! to each his own!
and do you end every post with this "!" ?This Message Edited On 10.28.08
