"Weather Systems is great, but it lacks the natural feeling of its predecessor being formulaic at times"
Formulaic? Yes. Lacking in natural feeling? HEEEEEEEEELLL no

Part of my dislike for WS might stem from the fact that 2012 was such an awful year for me that whenever I think of it I just want to scream, nevertheless I really doubt I'd enjoy the album as much as all y'all even if circumstances were more neutral

honestly it's not so much the lyrics of WS as it is the pomp
distant satellites proved one thing - they don't need the fucking pomp. they're at their best when they're just being stripped down musically. they express enough emotion without the massive, bloated orchestra and brash mixing to make everything sound SUPER SUPER HUGE. all the extra stuff in the mix honestly bogged WS down and it made it sound like it's trying too hard to do what it's trying to do rather than simply being an expressive, honest piece of music like this album is.

I mostly agree with that, Noctus, but I don't think this is thaaaat stripped down; The Lost Song I in particular is pretty nicely layered

I think they achieved one of their most honest works with WS, and the orchestral elements really complement the music, like the second half of Storm before the calm. The writing may be formulaic and cheesy, but they compensated for it with the passion imo
This album was where I think the formula becomes a little too safe, and the electronic elements could have been done better

layered, yes, like every track here. but it's the fact that the layering in WS makes the sounds feel like they're all fighting for prominence that is the biggest distinction, whereas here it's much more intelligently done.

I guess me and this album will never be close friends. You know i hope it would change but it's just the way it is you know. No one wants to cast the first stone and so forth

WHBWH is really the only album I could get into with this new happy style, just cant dig the albums since then very much.

This took some time to grow on me, but now I like it better than WS, and enjoy it pretty much equally as much as WHBWH. Slight edge to WHBWH, though.

A few half decent ideas and production here and there on this, but not a memorable album at all. It's all so dull.

Title track is one of their best. Even though the lyrics are kinda ugh.... not good.

Yeah the lyrics are cringeworthy, and the electronic elements could have been modern, but the atmosphere is great.
I don't understand why Jamie hasn't recorded the bass on the past two albums. He's a great bassist with a good music sense, and would add more character to the basslines like on WHBWH
