This is going to be a lot to take in. Just finished my first listen and it's definitely strong. I love the feel and how this is so different than his other material.

I love how Townsend is so specific with the vibes he creates and how good he is at making them sound the way he wants
Like not just 'sad music' or 'happy music' or 'organic music,' he's like 'this music will sound like the ocean,' or 'this music will sound like canada' or 'this music will sound like country music being played through a jukebox on the fucking moon' and he aint just hyping it actually fucking sounds like that

Casualties of Cool is a phenomenal album. Devin's usual wizardry w/ guitars, vocals and production combined with Morgan Ågren's outstanding yet subtle percussion and Ché's enchanting voice all cohered to give one of the most enjoyable listening experiences that I've had in a while. What's even better is its depth, where as many of you have already pointed out, upon re-listening you can pick up on things that eluded you before (especially with Ågren's work).
Now, about disc 2...
It sucks. Or at least by comparison. Casualties isn't really a double-album and Devin himself has said the second disc is merely a combination of scrap from the Ghost II and Casualties album. It certainly has some good tracks on it here and there but let's not act like it doesn't have songs like "Digging for Gold" and "Fight" (a totally inferior version of the song "Flight" in which Ché is nowhere to be found).

i don't know why he keeps putting out these bonus disks. epiclouder was terrible too

My god the production on this is fucking shitballz amazing. Definitely makes it even more engaging.
Loving this as much as ghost atm. I love the subtle brief moments where everything explodes for a few seconds in some of the songs. Like 4:31 in Moon. or the chorus in Forgive Me.
100% agree with the average here. Album is definitive 4.2/5.

"epiclouder was terrible too"
I actually thought epiclouder was about the same quality level as epicloud, but more interesting. Certainly it had a couple duds mixed in but so did epicloud.

@ this album, the things holding it back from 5 territory imo:
Deathscope, the only questionable song. The sound effects on it are interesting but the song just isn't that great, at least compared to everything else here.
Also, while a lot of the songs have a minute or two of ambient shit at the end - and it works well on most of them - on a couple it feels unnecessary and wankish. Kind of a nitpick but it does detract slightly from the album.

Now THIS is country music. Sounds like music a redneck would play in a spaceship over a barren desert.
