"yeah Gira is probably fucking disgusted by it tbh"

nah not at all, he said in various interviews he was more than glad to see some young people and

chicks supporting him and coming to the live gigs instead of just the usual lurkheads

'Theneedledrop gave this a 10/10. A whole lot of people watch TND. People will see the score and flip shit.'

Na man the kind of people who jizz over Fantano will definitely already be Swans fans I promise you

i originally 4.5'd this but it wears off very quickly after the initial excitement diminishes and i realize how repetitive these songs are. they need to make a new album that isn't 2 hours long.

also i retract my previous statement: the seer shits all over this

I doubt that. The Seer wasn't very good

sure it was. it was also too long but it felt like a singular experience and it was a lot of fun to sit through. this is more a collection of songs and the more i listen the less i like it tbh. just a little boy is like 10 minutes too long, she loves us is one of the best but spend 8 minutes getting to the best part and ultimately isn't worth it, and most of the slower songs have the same problem: not worth the wait. pacing is not swans' strong suit

oxygen and a little god are two of their best songs though

This is not an album you can listen to over and over. That does not make it worse

if you start liking an album considerably less each time you play it, i think it does mean that it's getting worse.

Although the repetitiveness on here doesn't bother at all imo, the said repetitions constantly show

signs of progress or subtle change with soo much details within them I find myself hardly tired from

the progressions while I listen, it's kinda like a small ode to minimalists song structures as with

reich or glass

Yeah you can't listen to the same Steve Reich piece every day without it getting old quickly but that doesn't diminish the composition

also yeah about this not being easy to listen to over an over, it's definitly an exhausting listen, damn damn gud noneless but I can hardly stand overplaying it (thankfully most of the tracks like Oxygen for the groove or Just a little Boy for the trip work well individually for me)

i haven't been listening to this every day 24 fucking 7, js19. i've heard the album in its entirety 3 times, and i have select tracks i keep revisiting. some of the others (some of which i've just heard 3-4 times) are already starting to lose their luster, and some were painfully boring to begin with. i think swans are terrible when it comes to pacing. everyone will rush to their aid with things like 'it's constantly changing though, subtly'. so subtle i can't even hear it. i will cede that songs like oxygen keep building as they go, but even then they're nowhere near as nuanced as they'd like you to think. the compositions are slow as molasses most times and the payoff is rarely worth the wait

I will agree that The Seer is a better album mainly because I feel that The Seer was far more tonally consistent. Every track felt like it was placed perfectly and put on the right disk to deliver a much more interesting experience musically. To Be Kind feels more like it's just a collection of songs than a complete album.

That said, I think this album is still great. Bring the Sun/Toussaint L'Overture is probably some of the best that Swans has made.

Damn. This is already getting enough hype for people to jump on the anti-hype "this is disgustingly overrated" train? I have to get this.
