Aside from Sakura, My Funny Valentine definitely grabbed me around the mid section and Chikashitsu no Melody is a jam. The other BT three albums are solid enough that I'm prepared to give this one quite a bit of time and attention to grow tbh, am expecting great things though

Id definitely recommend checking out some of the bands live performances, they always bring their A-game when performing!

Any suggestions for start points? I had a flick through on yt, but their career and discog are so extensive it was kinda hard to pick a point to latch onto

Climax Together is great, and is probably the best starting point for getting into their lives, since its comprised of their material from 1992 and before, which is their most popular stuff to this day. Additionally, one that pretty easy to find online is 'Satellite Circuit' which was a live TV broadcast performance they did where they perform a bunch of tracks from KT as well as a few from Taboo and Aku no Hana. And if you can find it, the 13th floor with Diana live is a must see, as they perform 13kai wa Gekkou in full.

Yume Miru Uchuu is one of the most accessable albums they have, along with Razzle Dazzle. The older albums take a while to grow, while I think those really hit the mark immediatly.

That surprises me, since this is overall the BT fan fav. Not even a mention of Jupiter? That's one of the band's three biggest emotional gut punches for me.
Their lives...oh boi that's another kettle of fish entirely. As for the best live to watch first Johnny I think Tour Atom is definitely the best starting point for you since you're already familiar with the album, has a few other big hits from their career you don't know and Cayce has written a large amount of lyrical/visual analysis on that tour and album which is great background reading. I can link that to you if you want.
As for watching the shows, that's a bit tricky. Some may be on VK (they uploaded my Tour Atom rip after all heh) but to watch them, the best thing to do is to be on JPopSuki to download them since they have every single live in one place in full and in 1080p. The band is hard to get into but there's so mcuh resources for you if you have people to guide you. If anyone here wants to join (it's an invite only site) just give me a message in my shoutbox here or join the Buck-Tick Discord I run which is the main hub for the international BT community: https://discord.gg/y6vqmDE

Jupiter is definitely striking a note for me now, kinda glazed on the first couple listens though. This is picking up for me in general - I think DTD gave me enough Tender Prey vibes that I went into this expecting something similar and was a bit disappointed to find something more similar to Scary Monsters, but it's coming together
I'll set some time aside next week to check out Tour Atom and will give you a buzz after! Pretty busy rn and want to be able to focus on it properly

Every album they do minus one or two exceptions has distinct traits so it's best to go into each album with a completely blank slate.
Just give me a shout whenever you want a way to find Tour Atom, because it isn't available anywhere except maybe VK and definitely JPopSuki.

Yeah, listening to this and then going on to something like Sexy Stream Liner or Razzle Dazzle will each give you an entirely different experience. This is a band where pretty much every release is worth checking out, due to the amount of variety they have whilst still maintaining a sound that is distinctly their own.

Yeah, I've LOVED the variety between their albums so far. Given that my current ranking would probably be Darkness>this>13kai>Atom (all of which I dig a lot), what would be best to check next?

I suggest Razzle Dazzle next for you to dip your toes in their straight rock era. A slightly theatrical dance-rock album which really gets going after the first few songs.

Also, don't shy away from the bands earlier works, like Seventh Heaven and Taboo. While not their best work, you can see the evolution of their style through those two records from their initial pop punk tenancies towards a darker goth rock sound. Taboo was actually my first Buck-Tick record

Yeah, there are a fair amount of people that like their early stuff. I'm not one of them particularly but it's part of their history and it's interesting to see how they evolved from there.

Plus, their earlier releases contain some of the bands staple tracks - Just One More Kiss, Victims of Love, Sexual xxxxx!, Iconocalsm - all essential listens for any Buck-Tick fan. Plus, there are some criminally underrated tracks on some of the bands earlier works, such as Sex for You on Taboo and Physical Neurose on Seventh Heaven, to name a couple.

What a fuckin idiot I was to drop this to a 4.5. Nearly every song here is like 'holy shit this is the best song ever' territory.
Live version of Jupiter >>>>>>>>>> tho
