tentative picks:
- planescape: torment as the GOAT (as stated before)
- deus ex for a plethora of reasons not least of which the way it includes and handles politics
- either system shock - the first one isn't really an rpg but has tremendous merit regardless
- starcraft: broodwar as one of many great RTS because it was a ton of fun to compete in on casual iccup ladder (the campaign was also pretty good for its time for a number of reasons)
- either doom 2 for best singleplayer shooter or quake for best shooter overall (including multiplayer experience)
