Which is kinda why their new lp let me down. But I don't want to dwell on that too much. Haha I feel like they're capable of expanding on their sound. Idk I'm still pretty hopeful

"A tad bit melodramatic"
I blame my recent breakup for that haha. But seriously, those screams are really strong. I'm excited to listen to this album. Dealer gets better with each listen

Yeah man Rory hits so hard. Gotta check Dealer soon

dealer takes away pretty much everything that made this so unique in favor of subtlety

that worries me somewhat

on the other hand, Dealer keeps the emotion of this but presents it in a way where it isn't shouted in your face constantly

in other words, it's a lot more reserved than this. it's still decent though

tbh i loved the emotion in the shouted vox here, the short run time of the record means that they dont drag on

Dealer's concept and ambition is perhaps a little bit more intriguing than The Albatross, but I think the latter's execution is more effective in terms of its songwriting. Perhaps Dealer's a bit more focused on the whole "experience", but I find that in that its a lot more dull. The Albatross seems unfocused and a bit too self-indulgent at times. Yet for me it makes a more charming listen. Lyrically, their second is a fair bit better, though, for the most part.

Really liked this whole album. A more charming listen is definitely what I'd call this when comparing it to Dealer.

both are incredible imo but Dealer is a bit more reserved

Nah, I felt like they deliberately tried to be be less ambitious or at least less personal on Dealer. Still sounds nice, but feels less engaged.
I'll say again that Indica is their worst track, which is a shame because it puts an unnecessary damper on the rest of the album.

Indica aint that bad man. a bit too quiet maybe but the lyrics and melodies are incredible and save the song for me

Indica is fucking incredible ...???

There's no feeling in Conor's vocals because he's not singing about his own experience.
The lyrics are fine, but the delivery is not convincing and it feels like they wrote all all of the music to fit behind it.

i see that a bit tbh...when I found out that the bassist wrote the song I wondered if there was that same passion there with Conor when they played it live the first time I saw them. I was a bit thrown off because in the set it was gorgeous musically but Conor's delivery was way less passionate compared to the rest of their set, even Three on a Match (one of my favs off Dealer). still enjoy the song but after that I thought of it a bit less. like I said though lyrics are evocative enough for me to still get chills every time I hear, "and it breaks my mother's heart to know I came back broken" or "could I give back the sounds of their children's screams?"

Glad you get what I mean. The lyrics are good, but just don't hit hard and the track doesn't really go anywhere to sell them.

On that note, I'm going to bump this to a 4. I've been listening to it a lot and there are minimal flaws.
