That's why I liked the 2nd half of the album. They did a better job mixing it up and trying different things. The 1st half all kind of sounds really similar and nothing ends up standing out like songs on the last half.

The first song should've just kept the slow chugging tempo, but it unnecessarily jumped right into the heavy upbeat tempo. It didn't fit. The 2nd song followed the exact same uptemp chugging.

Yup, somehow threads turn into a MK match daily. Meh, I enjoy the album still.

I need to listen more before I make a final rating, but I can't help but be disappointed by the lack of lead guitars. I enjoy the heaviness but there's not much behind the curtain to check out. Just that rhythm guitar. While a lot of parts use this method well, many of them just seem shallow.

Not to mention that none of the chorus melodies are that great. A lot of people on this thread have been raving about the lyrics; but for me, lyrics are the last thing I listen to. If the melody and instrumentation is good, then I will pay attention to the lyrics, and if I like them, even better. Unfortunately, this album isn't getting me to that point right now. Maybe it will grow on me. I respect Senses Fail enough to give it a few more listens, and I also commend them for trying something new.

yes your right andcas it is hard to look at this album without comparing it to their previous material.

My main gripe is with the melodies though. Take for an example, the chorus from Mi Amor. It feels like they were trying for a catchy melody, but its just doesn't capture me like their old stuff. The only chorus that really grabbed me on the album was Snake Bite.

I sort of wished that they ditched the whole verse chorus structure, I think it would have worked better with this type of sound.

This album couldn't come at a better time, lyrically. It's going to help me the way two e troverts help each other. By feeding on the others soul!!!!
