vocals are pretty medicore to bad

I agree about the clean vocals being stronger here for sure. The harsh vocals just rub me the wrong way. They're sometimes successful (like "Causality," "Cortical," etc.,) but more often than not they feel uncomfortable. At the same time, though, I feel like the musicianship in the heavier parts is inadequate here, so that may be influencing my opinion.

I like the opener. The song goes pretty much nowhere, but is pretty decent while at it.

Naaaaaaaaaah. Both are very young bands showcasing great musicianship and musical concepts. Though sometimes they fail to properly convey their ideas. They make music that's conventionally unpopular, and making a living off of it. So good for them. I wish I could do this successfully.

i highly highly doubt they make a living off it, but i guess thats irrelevant. and sure i respect both bands for getting this far. i just dont like their music. ROS is way too gimmicky, the potential is there but they gotta drop the "play as absolutely insane and as fast as possible 100% of the time" thing. as for this band, i liked exoplanet, this one just didnt do it for me

I'm fairly certain they do generate a living from touring. I'm not entirely sure of RoS, but I know that the Contortionist tours at a near constant, and with the modern day, North American job market being as tight as it is, this would imply that they would tour, get a job, quit, tour, get a job, quit etc. Nothing wrong with disliking it though. I just found the "fuck [band name]" to be a little too unfocused of criticism, haha.
RoS' last release, "Dingir", while still relying on the speedy-tech, alien-esque approach, has put more emphases on comprehensible riffing, rhythmic groove, and structural aspects of composition. The absurd blast-beats and string wankery is still apparent, but dropped in appearance.
Though I persoanlly liked the atmosphere Intrinsic conveyed, I can certainly understand the dislike from the other-end of the spectrum. The bone-crushing soundscape they composed is extremely lightened in favor of a more "relaxed" spacey mood. And the "heavy" sections here are a far-cry from Exoplanet.

Pretty depressing that metalcore bands can make cash regardless of the quality of their music, while proper death metal bands are doomed to full-time jobs.
