@Xenophanes: not sure how much you understand about music theory, especially rhythmic structure and keys, but I can assure you this band is VERY progressive, but not in an obvious way. Complicated and unnatural rhythmic structure. Willingness to experiment with unconventional riffs. A sense of space and atmosphere.

I've always considered this band progressive from the moment I heard them. Sure it's no Dream Theater, but then again I'd honestly debate if Dream Theater deserves the progressive metal tag since all they really do is regurgitate musical concepts from 1800s classical music with no real or meaningful experimentation.

Well said man.

I understand your point but experimentation needs to revisit the past. The main point is using those past references to create something new and fresh.

Bands that get "big" in metal will always be ragged on by elitist metal heads. These guys have a unique sound and I really dig it. Progressive, death, who the fuck cares.

I am new to them, but will say that this one lacks the same "oomph" as earlier albums. Still great.
