Perhaps I worded it poorly, or maybe I'm just ignorant. I only meant that it seems to strive off of the messy, raunchy, loud aspect similar to groups like Hella or Lightning Bolt. Though maybe you might care to elaborate on what noise is, instead of just saying I don't know what it is.

I'm hardly an expert on noise; the reason I take issue with calling things like this noisy is that all that it usually means is distorted. Anything with heavy feedback or something is "noisy". Death Grips has far too much structure and melody for me to call it noise. Harsh noise is much more abrasive and unsettling than Death Grips; this shit is clown shoes. That's why I laugh when people claim that others are just too closed-minded to get Death Grips. I've listened to plenty of stuff much more abrasive than Death Grips and I wouldn't even consider myself well-versed in music.

again can someone please explain to me how Black Up was bad? seriously what's to hate?

It's aggressively boring

This is just a fun album. The whole "pseudo-intellectual" thing is kind of over the top, because that's not the vibe I get from it.

You either like the sound that they are playing with or you don't. There's not a whole lot more to it imo.

I gotcha Idnuf. I'm not really trying to say it is straight up noise, or anything like that. I just felt it had a noisy quality to it from their overall sound and production ya know? And I agree with maniac that this is just fun. I didn't get any kind of vibe from this album that the Death Grips collective were trying do achieve anything more than that.

You misread what sobhi was trying to say. All he meant is that if you like this album, you're an asshole

I don't think anybody here simply called it "noise" which is something different to noisy elements applied to a song with discernible structure or melody. Which is presumably the context in which they were using it. Yes it's annoying when people overstate the noisiness aspect of Death Grips but I can understand why people at least refer to it

I would like to make something clear. I think over the years the definition of 'review' has earned a new connotation. The purpose of a review is to share an opinion (duh), but now i feel the rise of the internet review has made it so opinion is taken as fact. Just because staff seems to give this a bad rating, doesn't make it a bad album. There is no such thing as a good or bad album anyway, that's just based on its perception, which is the reason for the existence of the review. I just think i feel the need to reiterate this after reading the comments here, people get too caught up in who's right and who's wrong and forgot the sole reason of why they're even here. No intention to be condescending at all, i just wanted to say this. For example, just because this review says it's for "non hip hop fans" doesn't make it so. I love hip hop and i feel i have a firm understanding of it, and i also loved this album. Whether you like it or not is based on what you're looking for in a hip hop album, and i feel if you typically like to see progression, you will at least enjoy the existence of this album. So if you're wondering about listening to this album, and then read this review and decide not to, that's fucking ridiculous and you're completely supporting this new connotation of the review. Reviews aside, listen to the album and then come back to the review and see what others' opinions are. THAT'S what reviews are for. It's the same reason a jury is sequestered from the outside media; so they can judge objectively.

So after getting that out of the way, i enjoyed this album :]
