"as an aspiring writer I actually hold lyrical content to be as important as the music itself"

That's silly. I know plenty of aspiring writers or who have written legitimate articles who don't hold lyrics at the forefront of every piece of music because they know not every song has the context of trying to be lyrical or focusing on lyrics. If this was true than Daniel Johnston and Damien O would be absolute shit because their lyrics wouldn't hold much literary merit.

I never said partying is for brainless idiots, but hey, twist it any way you want.

Oh, okay. Party music is for brainless idiots. Got it.

@FrankRedHot: Yeah man but why can't people party to deeper music like Immortal Technique?

Honestly, though, if someone played La Dispute at a party, I'd kiss them regardless of sex/attractiveness/whateverotherfactors

and of the course the obligatory cry-dance-shuffle-thing

No, robertsona. I'm the guy at the school dance that spits game to your chick until she follows me to the restroom and let's me bend her over a toilet.

Then I go stand in the corner and wish they played good music.

It also helps that I'm not a 12 year old anymore in middle school.

the "zip your lip like a padlock" line which like many of her lyrics don't make a shred of sense

How does it not make a shred of sense? The point is "keep your mouth shut". Padlocks generally keep things locked up more tightly than zips. She really wants the guy to shut up. So. To convey that idea, she uses a play on "zip your lip" (a common expression). Get it?

Ke$ha analysis thread.

Sex Pistols are garbage.

Being a teen in the mid-late 90's in South Florida I was lucky enough to avoid any of the dance-pop craze. Everyone was either into booty music or hip hop.

Is the basis for this argument really "simplified lyrics and catchy hooks = less than intelligent artist behind them"?

It is, but I shouldn't be. I'm going on an artist-to-artist basis, but everyone wants to blow it out of proportion because they're oversensitive and can't handle the fact that not everyone enjoys pop music.
