Maybe if I was sober and more familiar with their discography it wouldnt have been such a draining experience.

On a side note, during the Katatonia set some guy behind me said "now this is what Swedish death-rock is supposed to sound like."

smh

I try to share that philosophy Xeno but I promptly forget it. However that said, CTTS, Touche Amore and Piano/teeth coming to my hometown is un heard of. Better not forget it sinc eit's on Halloween.

I had to cancel seeing WITTR, fuck it it just wasn't worth a 7 hour drive, the gas it would cost or the tip money I generally earn on a Saturday night.

I was actually disappointed with this album at first, being a huge fan of their previous sound. But after 5 listens or so I realized that it was the prog that I loved so much about Opeth. Loving it.

Ghost Reveries was a badass album and watershed was essentially Ghost reveries part 2 but it was the lesser of the two. Watershed had times where Akerfeldt almost sounded r&b-ish. It wasn't a bad album but it wasn't as impactful. Heritage just seemed less focused and I felt like the vocal melodies were lacking. The instrumentation was good, as always, it just didn't seem to have that "it" factor that opeth have had for so long. Good review, I agree

It's okay. I feel it really lacks the "fun" factor, if you will of great 70s prog acts like Camel or Gentle Giants. The guitar work is at times great, and others out of place and absolutely boring. The song writing is at an all-time worst, and I don't think Mikael sounds THAT great on this record.

But, it's still Opeth. The drums are definitely the high-light here. Seeing them live tonight for my 6th time, and I'm pretty freaking stoked regardless.
