This always happens with these kinds of bands... They try to display some of their new sound with some of the older sound and it just doesn't work. I've figured out why, I mean...they're just writing the music to please the new and the old fans. Realistically though, they should be writing what they feel like writing, not appeasing fans. On top of that, anything that sounds almost Shogun-esque is dumbed down for radio play (yet another thing that happens with these kinds of bands)
All in all though...Trivium still pulls if off better than most in this situation... (Atreyu, Avenged Sevenfold, etc.) Still I was yearning for a step above Shogun, even if not in that same direction, something that wasn't just a mixing of their previous efforts... That's kinda how In Waves seems to me...a mixing.
