Thomas Pynchon > James Joyce. Deal with it.

I enjoyed "The crying of lot 49" immensely and "Vineland" was good as well. Ive also read "Dubliners" and "portrait of the artist" by joyce and I think they are both great authors but pychon gets kind of grating with all the california hippie stuff sometimes imo.

WAY too wordy. Reads more like a childish rant than a review. Hate to say it, but this is extremely amateurish.
Hate to say I told you so.
Also, I'm upping this to a 5. First time listening while on the road tonight and it feels just so fuckin' awesome.

Someone agreed with you therefore you're right Japandroid?
But wait, I disagree. What does that mean? PARADOX!
You remind me of TheGoddamnBatman. That's not a compliment.

I thought the consensus was that this is a very childish rant dressed as a review.
I don't give a fuck if you're defending your staff reviewer, man. Even before I joined here there were people complaining, even staff members.
Stop being such an ass kisser, Dwight. It's kinda sad how much obvious you are.

dont know what children you read but you'll have to hook me up to the wordy ones
I said it reads like a childish rant. If you want to be hooked up with examples, this site is a literal breeding ground of both wordy reviews AND childish rants, so you're in the right place to look. I know you said a few pages back you don't read many reviews on here, so that would explain your ignorance.

Yeah I've noticed you tend to think of your opinion as a consensus.

All i'm saying is this: the tag of "staff reviewer" comes with certain standards and expectations.
This review doesn't even come close to meeting them.
I know for a fact you can do better Adam, this review is simply beneath you. That's why i was
disappointed.
|

I disagree and think, as I said on page 1, that this is one of the best reviews I've read in months.
|
| |
If a review's job is to persuade (or conversely, dissuade) the reader from listening to a particular album, then this review succeeded, as I don't plan on ever listening to this (by virtue of the review, mind you, as it was persuasive enough to do its job).

I'd like to notice again that not only reads like a childish rant, he got the lyrics of the only song he quoted wrong. Also, he says the song has christian motifs because there's the word savior in the title.
This is like saying that El Paso is about the city. But yeah, there's no room to criticism here, just ass kissing.
|
| |
^The fact that no one is criticizing this particular review does not mean that we're ass kissing. It's possible that the review is, in fact, good. I've seen many Sputnik regulars (far more active than I am, anyways) criticize staff reviews, but perhaps this particular album does not warrant criticism.

And that, xtoxin, it's a shame. Amazing record. If I"d actually review on this, I'd give it a 4.5/5, since I'm not, it's getting a 5.
