Metalcore isn't dead, it's just that ABR made a decent album that doesn't change much or really add to the genre other than a couple great moments on the CD. Even as a new ABR listener I can't get into it because its just plain metalcore with no real innovation. A 3.0 is a perfect rating because this band is an awesome metal core band just to listen and play to, but not to attach to, at least in my opinion. I'm not sure if metalcore is originally defined as melodic guitar+screaming but I was accustomed to knowing it as those two plus some singing here and there for emotion. Without the singing, the riffs and drums don't make up enough to make me say "wow!," the song writing just isn't that elegant. Maybe I need to listen to the album more?

Nah 3 is a fine rating, it's not like a 3/5 or 6/10 is that bad anyway. It's kinda funny how sensitive some people here are about ratings.

I guess "Alive or Just Breathing" (a landmark Metalcore release) is gay because it incorporates mainly screaming and some singing. Listen to "My Last Serenade" and "Numbered Days" if you haven't heard KsE.

everyone's heard KsE

metalcore = metal + hardcore

but many bands take that to mean brutal breakdowns + screaming

tkxxx that cleared it up for me. I think Psychopathologist thought I was referring to newer metalcore bands that over use breakdowns and pop choruses like you said, which I wasn't. August Burns Red doesn't really incorporate the yelling/singing side of hardcore anywhere, and that's why I can't love it.

I just thought it was strange when early on there were a bunch of 1s on an album like this. Also a little odd how many people consider this a classic.

Curse.

I will admit that 99% of metalcore is garbage, but a couple bands keep it from completely dying off, much like Deftones with nu-metal.

yea well metalcore has been dead since 1999, a couple of good albums here and there can hardly save it
