My retarded critical consensus: the key to liking The Wonder Years is not treating them as pop punk. The rest of the album somehow requires a bit of time to sink in, as its full compositional value is not as simple as one would think. "Came Out Swinging" is fantastic, yes, but it is obviously incredibly digestible, and may mislead you into thinking that the rest of the album should come easily to you. But really, it doesn't.
