these 5's comin out of the woodwork, pretty great album. A bit unfocused kinda like Messe, but an excellent listen nonetheless

i'm drawn to the strength of this album because of how focused it is, to me anyway. whereas releases like blood inside and shadows feel less focused

Agreed hard. It never drags, doesn't overstay its welcome at all. Plus so many of its few tracks are complete bangers.

Agreed. What I love about this is how much territory it covers in just 45 minutes while continuing to sound different from what they did before.

Totally. It hits the sweet spot between experimentation and accessibility like no other Ulver release does.

I keep forgetting just how much this average is off. Man! 3.3!? No way. With tracks like Island, Providence, England...

Agreed. I can't even think what people dislike so much about this

Edit: at Talons. I'd put Shadows over this still.

might be that people think of ulver as extreme experimental and are disappointed that they released a totally normal rock album in wars of the roses
the last track is experimental but the rest of it is just normal, unlike teachings in silence or nattens

That would have been a valid point but Assassination gets universal praise even though that's poppier than this.

I’d hardly call this normal, there’s plenty of weirdness and genre-bending going on but I guess it’s their most straightforward aside from Assassination.

Like it a lot less than this, agreed. Still enjoy it a lot though. These guys have yet to disappoint me and that's saying something 10 records and a shitload of other releases in...
