i totally like the mixtape version more now, but i think the early version is so good and theres the "first song i heard by them" nostalgia

I listened to Frank Ocean's album last night almost immediately after listening to this. I honestly like this way more. Frank Ocean's album was definitely enjoyable, don't get me wrong, but i had some issues with it that brought it down. It's currently a solid 3.5 for me.

yeah this is definitely better than Frank Ocean. production blows it out of the water.

Yeah, definitely. Plus, and this is just a personal gripe of mine, i think Frank Ocean went just a little overboard on the autotune at some points on the album. I'm well-aware that it's used quite a bit on this too, but it's utilized more wisely imo. At times, it actually adds to the atmosphere on the album.

I like Ocean less and less. Something about the production bothers me, and the all too obvious use of popular song samples. Plus the whole vibe is kind of generic where as this has a very specific kind of haunting quality to it. Frankly I think Tesfaye's voice is a whole lot better too, especially his range.

this is sort of addicting :@

although so far i don't like the album as a whole, i like a few songs and want to listen to it often

oh and when i say i don't like it i mean i don't like it as much as some of you guys with your 4.5s

Yeah, i was gonna mention something about the samples, too. I normally don't have a problem with sampling, but at times it seems less like he's sampling the song and more like covering it, but while writing his own lyrics to it. Again, it's not a bad album at all, but it doesn't even touch this.

This kinda reminded me of some songs that i heard off that How To Dress Well album that came out last year. Think i might check that out soon.

Apparently there's a 'skewed' version of the album, all slowed down and blunted out. I'm guessing that's from it. Prefer the mixtape version myself
