As far as straight up Emo, Diary is actually my favorite. As far as the whole Emo/Screamo hybrid, ATRU is closely followed by A Dead Sinking Story. Can't forget City of Caterpillar as well.

hah no I was just saying that... I'm incredibly biased when it comes to Songs, I'm well-aware that it's not the best emo album ever made.

I mean if we're trying to be more objective about it though you should really hear stuff like:
Maximillian Colby
Honeywell
Ten Grand
Navio Forge
oopsies almost forgot pg.99
Indian Summer

I dunno I'm just spouting nonsense now too much emo

separating the genre, Diary and Shmap'n Shmazz are my favourite non-hardcore emo albums, while this and The Heat Death are my favourite hardcore emo albums. there's still so much I haven't heard though

""hardcore emo" is just screamo"

I know, but I hate saying "screamo" and I wanted to differentaite between Sunny Day Real Estate/Cap'n Jazz type emo from pg. 99/Off Minor type emo.

So has the new album just derailed or what?

As to ranking this among other emo albums, there is absolutely something intangible about this, (in addition to everything obvious), that makes it a frontrunner; it's the obvious energy, but also the kind of quasi-psychadelic vibe in some of the songs. Oh, and the drums.

Also, Archives' Decline, closest album to this imo, has now become my most listened to emo album.
