I’m reading through some of these testimonies. Good grief. Why on Earth does a girl follow a grown man to his hotel room alone and not consider he may make advances. What, did they expect he wanted to be their best friend and talk about cats and nick drake or something? He’s an entitled pervert and they’re stupid.

I'm guessing possible advances were considered in at least some of these instances, just nobody expected Kozelek to be such an aggressive wheedling creep about it

The silver lining. I wonder if his contrived attempt at boomer rap was a ploy to get younger coochie.

this album really has no low points for me which is rare even amongst my 5s

'lily and parrots' was the last domino to fall for me a while back

’ did you just discover this tec?’

Weirdly, yes. Love RHP, but for whatever reason never bothered to check out SKM. I even remember how hyped this was when it came out (I was in high school at the time) as well as BENJI back in 2014. But just never got around to them. Then by the time Mark got all weirdly prosaic I think I started to subconsciously avoid all his post-RHP work.

But yeah, big mistake. This is ahead of any of his RHP stuff imo. Just phenomenal, front to back. Glenn Tipton, Carry Me Ohio, and Duk Koo Kim are legitimate all timers, but even the oft-considered “”weak points”” like Lily and Parrots or Last Tide are amazing (and essential to the album, tbh).

I did enjoy BENJI, too, but this is miles ahead of it. An instant classic for me.
Something I haven’t proclaimed since I first heard Au Pair’s PLAYING WITH A DIFFERENT SEX.
