i don't know, I think Obsidian sounds like it was more exhausting for him to make. it's much more personally based, whereas this one is much more rooted in the music itself.

this whole thing was pretty much based around him dealing with his homosexuality and purging the demons that come with that, so idk Obsidian kinda strikes me as something he felt like he had to do rather than something he wanted to do, you feel me?

That makes sense about this album, but I don't really see how Obsidian fits into what you said. If
anything the album seems more out of what Will wants to do, since it's mostly based on lyrics.
Cerulean, as amazing as it is, looks more like full-fledged sonic exploration for Baths than anything
else. Sure, it has really solid backing (the story you mentioned,) but I think Obsidian is a more
telling release of exactly who Baths is.

to be honest i do need to listen to Obsidian more - i've only heard it once and i still have a lot more to discover about it. It just feels a bit more directionless to me, is all. but im still gonna give it a few more spins before i give a true opinion on it, that's just how I'm feeling right now

It definitely leaves more of an impression with more spins. It's becoming an emotionally exhausting album for me, because it's so packed to the brim with meaning for Will. The purposes just don't always reveal themselves in an aesthetically pleasing manner, which is the album's biggest downfall

Huh, interesting. I actually also was let down by this album on the first listen, but that seems surprising now.
