While I think this is an extremely good core foundation of their modern sound I definitely think there's a little bit of a tight tie to Mis Sigs and to a lesser extent, Shai Hulud here. I'm glad they molded those ideas into their own unique sound tbh

I still view it for the time it came out. It was a REVOLUTIONARY sound for my eardrums.

Fair enough, for me it was Tragedy and I thought it was BIG BRAIN core and the most meticulously crafted masterpiece the sound ever doth created

I still love it and think it has some of Brendan's biggest heartbreakers i.e Collapse and Solace

this was a band i just completely missed out on, finally rectifying that as it’s right up my ally. dig this a lot. didn’t expect it to be a much more melodic metalcore album as opposed to melodic hardcore. really fun breakdowns here too. little midwest emo flourishes as well was sweet. love the guitar work sounds so familiar but can’t put my finger on it. not a reinvention of the wheel but excellent at what it does. really excited to dig in further as apparently they get better.

favs- isolation, goodbye megaton, prophets, sturdy wings

next album is much more melodic hardcore but also their worst. it's all gravy after that though

i remember brendan saying they were trying too hard to sound "melodic hardcore" and like the bands they liked like defeater etc

If I could hear this album with Brendan's current vocal ability it would probably be my favorite thing ever.

Starting to realize this is the best Counterparts album. Guitarwork never really hit these levels again
