and tbh, i dunno why people say viva and tgcd are alike, sure they kinda have the same structures but the songs in context are very different from eachtoher, same thing with this record, their last 3 albums are very different eachother, i admit its kinda hard to tell that they are different ar first but the more you listen to them you will notice that they are very different.

I have to admit that some of Katatonia's best songs to date are on this record.
I agree, a couple tracks here ("Forsaker" and "Idle Blood") are some of the most brilliant songs this bands has made. Sadly, though, most of the other songs are either painfully average or some of their worst.

Agreed, but it spilled over to this album as well. Listening to "Idle Blood" makes me so frustrated that such giant potential in songwriting like that was wasted on a mishmash of mediocre tracks.

I've bought a bunch of their older albums within the last month and they are either on par or better than this.
I definitely agree with this. The band's last three albums are more consistent in my opinion.

You should get the other two, Discouraged Ones is great. Tonight's Decision is pretty solid, but drags on a little.

Now I haven't listened to the others enough to be certain of this. But it seems that this one sounds a lot more like all of the songs have the same style and flow and idea as a whole album, if that makes any sense. The older ones seemed kind of like they didn't know what kind of songs they should write.
