I am curious as to what you prefer more about lead sails than past work.
Okay.
Suicide Notes and The Curse are total arse - generic breakdowns, awful clean vocals, the worst lyrics this side of The Silence In Black & White ("MY HEART IS DEAD AND SO ARE YOU!" etc.) I remember liking it when I was fifteen, but I'm nearly twenty and it's just awful.
Death Grip made a turn for the better, with the band getting a lot tighter musically and Brandon taking a stronger role in the band (totally deserved, for the record). The best thing about that record, however, is that it showed potential - Lead Sails impacted on said potential. It features the band's best song to date ("Lose It"), some of the catchiest stuff they've ever done ("Falling Down") and songs that are just plain fun ("Becoming the Bull", "Doomsday"). They stopped taking themselves too seriously, they took off the bleeding mascara and they learned how to play. It's not a brilliant album by any means, but it's easily their best.
