They have amazing energy live. You should definitely try your best to catch them the next time they tour!
And, yeah, Davey is already pretty shy, but crazy fangirls just make it harder for the rest of us non-creepy fans to see him.
Although at that same show, a small group of friends and I were hanging out by the side door after the show (the big crowd was hanging around back), and an assistant poked his head out of the window and dropped a little basket down to us with chocolate Easter eggs that Davey wanted us to have.
Unfortunately, later, my boyfriend at the time sat on it, hahaha.

One of my first friends from college got to meet him randomly one night behind the venue, she didn't have anything else for him to sign but her shoe (which is totally awesome, seeing Chuck Taylors with his scrawl on them). He sounds like a nice guy, especially given the circumstances.
I've definitely been keeping an eye on their page, I want to go see them badly.

Yeah, I'm sure he's a nice guy - I think his shyness is totally understandable. The lack of privacy and insane speculation/sexualization you undergo when you're famous, not to mention one hell of a beautiful man, is enough to make you wary of crowds of fans.
Personally, all I want is for him to own at least one of my pieces some day, since I know he definitely collects art. I'd be so happy, since almost all of my work in high school revolved around AFI, haha.

I actually don't think that that would be terribly difficult if you put your mind to it; some things would certainly have to fall in place first but it's definitely quite possible!
Artists are normally interested in one another's work I find, you can find a way.

I can't pick just one, I normally don't run around constantly playing this but when I do play it it's always as one solid chunk start to finish.

It's a lot more coherent in that sense than Decemberunderground - though I liked that album too.

Well for the people who dislike this album Jade mentioned in the most recent interview that he doesn't see the band going any farther in this direction/going in this direction again. Just bought DU today, wanted a physical copy.

That's true, I think another punk sounding album would go over quite well now but who knows where they're headed.

eh, what I've heard pre Decemberunderground I found ok-meh. In saying that though, I haven't tried STS or Black Sails yet

Black Sails In The Sunset has definitely grown on me, their older work normally doesn't grab me right away.

@andcas - I hope not, I'd like to think the point of having that side project is so that Jade's electronic side stays there and Davey does AFI.

sing the sorrow is a life changing album.
YES.
I think it would be a bit weird for AFI to return to a punk sound, honestly, as much as I would like that. I think a good way to improve would be to change their lyrical themes or expand them. I definitely think the ones that aren't about love and relationships (that is, not DU and CL) tend to be stronger, because they don't fall prey to that particular brand of sentimentality.

True on all points, though I will mention that I want Davey to keep his darker themes present.

That's what I mean, though! I loved BSitS through StS so much for those darkly poetic themes. His lyrics on DU and CL were still on the darker end of things, but centering them on love made it far too easy for them to become poppy ballads.
I guess the dudes are feeling the pangs of wanting to settle down and get married or something, lol.
