Best part of album is either the dreamy, grandiose 6/8 "chorus" in the middle of Nightmare, or the last few minutes of Tuscany.

solos are boringly wanky most of the time
|

I totally disagree. The solos are brilliant; wanky yet very melodic.

The solo at the end of Tuscany is awesome and not too wanky.

I've been avoiding this one for a while. I enjoyed SFAM, 6DOIT, ToT, and Octavarium but I'm not really familiar with their old stuff (except for Metropolis Pt. 1). Would I like this?

Easily their best work since Scenes from a Memory and 6DOIT. I absolutely love this album, especially The Shattered Fortress and The Count of Tuscany. A Rite of Passage has a really great chorus, too.
