What do you hate about it Snooze? i've seen someone else say the same but no one ever explains why.

arguing against masterful creations without falling back on 'it sucks' or 'overrated' is hard to do.

I don't think as highly of London Calling by The Clash as most people seem to, so I get that it happens.
the melodies on this are so strong though. no idea how someone can come up with something like Wouldn't It Be Nice.

The harmonies at the end of God Only Knows never fail to give me chills.

Sure, there are ubiquitously loved albums that I'm not into, but I probably wouldn't call them 'bad' or whatever a 2 represents on this site. That's just being dismissive.
you ever play Bioshock, Avon? In the new one you walk past a barbershop quartet doing an a cappella version of it and it made me smile.

that a 2001: A Space Odyssey avatar? the Gyorgi Ligeti music in that is pretty much the coolest thing ever.

It is! And yeah, it is!
2001 basically fulfills the promise of it's medium, imo, which is something you can only say about a few works across all mediums.

gotta watch it again. any of the monolith scenes with that music cue freak me out - love it. i downloaded the soundtrack purely for that.
it looks pretty impressive for any era, let alone '68 or whatever it was. also loved Dr. Strangelove.

It's a terrifying in an 'existential terror' sort of way. Definitely freaked me out too. Ugh man that moment in the moon monolith scene when the camera lights align and that screeching noise plays is perfect.
Everything Kubrick made was incredible, with the exception of Eyes Wide Shut, which I still enjoyed.

Nah man, I've never been really big in to games personally. That would have been awesome, though!
The harmonies on this thing, though. No band has done it better.

yeah that part in particular i watched alot on YouTube. best part, along with the freakout sequence from your avatar and that ending. also love the dead silence in the space scenes.
been awhile since I've seen Eyes Wide Shut. loved The Shining - gotta get around to A Clockwork Orange next.
love that there's almost always a scene I recognise from a Simpsons parody.

Haha, yeah, the simpsons riffs on Kubrick films pretty frequently. Homer's Odyssey or whatever that episode is called is
hilarious.
I think the opening scene is up there with the ones you mentioned.

@Chris
you HAVE to watch 'Clockwork' if you haven't seen it. Personally my favourite of Kubrick's, but mainly because the theme of the film (and Malcolm McDowell was beyond brilliant)

honestly, beach boys have some of the most interesting harmonies i've heard, but i'm not sure i could stand them enough to listen to this full album.
this is basically a reminder to myself to listen to this album tomorrow.

Disregard all your pre-conceived notions of The Beach Boys being a nothing bubblegum pop band who only sang about girls and surfing. Sure, that might have summed up the early years of their career, but this is a majestic album about heartbreak, and a milestone of pop music featuring experimental instrumentation and some of the most glorious vocal harmonies ever sung. This is a must hear album man, jam it.

@wwf, it's pretty depressing lyrically, kick ass arrangements, some of the best melodies ever and free of filler to me. so a step above Smile, Sunflower, Surf's Up, Beach Boys Today and All Summer Long, all of which are worthwhile if this clicks for you.
@SgtPepper, i plan to dude! my three favourite Kubrick movies are all radically different, which appeals to me. unrelated but also been meaning to watch Citizen Kane.
@Skeames, haha yeah the potato chip scene is classic. also Homer riding the nuclear bomb like in Dr. Strangelove, to nuke those beatniks. 'radiant cool crazy nightmare. Zen New Jersey nowhere! How now brown bureaucrats.' the opening scene of 2001 is great too yeah.

@Chris
Nice. Yeah, Kubrick is a great director with an impressive filmography. Citizen Kane is really great, I recommend it mainly because it's one of those "see before you die" movies. I loved the visual styles that Orson Welles uses, but other than that, I wasn't a major fan of it. I know that's a sin to say that, but I would be lying if I said it was among my favourites.
