"alligator, listen to Operation: Mindcrime by Queensryche. That is an example of a good concept album, and one that you might like because it has that awesome epic 80's metal sound. sort of like iron maiden but more progressive. This Message Edited On 05.16.09"
I adore that album. It really is a brilliant batch of songs, plus a great concept and story. Too bad they couldn't make another decent album...I tried Empire and bleh!

First of all, you're picking lines that easily prove your point. does anyone else see the hilarity in that statement?
| | | "problem with this for me is that it is a concept album, so threfore I will look at it as such"
i really think the "concept" album stuff needs to be taken with a grain of salt. who says its a "concept" album? the band? the record company? Billie Joe? a "concept" is an idea....not a story necessarily or even a "rock opera." in fact a concept is often abstract without clear or concise meaning...but based on an idea or ideas. in which case this and American Idiot both qualify. it doesn't have to have a beginning, middle, and an end or send a strong message. it just needs to express some thing(s) which may be rooted in a single idea or abstract principles
but you see even that is too high minded for me. no matter what anyone says about this record or its lyrics or their meaning or story.....it doesn't change what the album is itself. which is a collection of well written and very well performed songs. that Green Day has tried to bring some sort of meaning to their music is most likely what keeps them (and others) interested. and yes, its also what irritates. because you do kind of want to slap them and say "STOP TAKING YOURSELVES SO SERIOUSLY." but what is the alternative for a band like them? which is basically a loud power pop band with strong punk influences. Dookie II, III, and IIII? getting experimental? branching out? all that would be met with even more disdain then this. the complaints would just be different
Green Day are not an original band. nor are they unique in anyway. but neither were the Stones, The Ramones, Led Zeppelin, Rancid, or The Who. and countless others. they have a guitar, bass, and a drum kit. and this album rocks like hell while giving you a reason to dance sometimes and at other times a reason to sit up and listen a little closer.
its not supposed to be War And Peace. its supposed to kick you arse a little and get your hips shaking a bit. and get you thinking a little bit. and thats exactly what this album does. anyone who wants to label it as this or that or w/e....including the group...is kind of silly.
it is what it is....18, 19, or 20 songs (idk) which are extremely listenable and surprisingly tuneful. and yes, the whole thing does flow musically...as a complete and cohesive work, from start to finish. iit has its weak spots....of course. but considering what it could have been....its a complete triumph imho

To many words for me to read!

My favorite line. I don't know if it's a compliment to Adam or a negative comment on the album, but this review is more memorable than the album.

subtle? Green day is the least subtle band I know.
As a collective of songs, this fails miserably. Most of it is filler. As a concept album, it fails even more so because the music is not cohesive. It does not flow together to form one big piece of music. The story is also completely incoherent and makes absolutely no sense, which is a major point reduction in my book.
The only reason this is a 2 is because this is catchy as fuck, and that is me being generous.
You're such a dumbass. You are a metalhead, you call absolutepunk a mainstream music site, the only 'punk' band you listen to is probably Rise Against, what the fuck, if there is one band who are sellouts, it's them. Who are you to judge Green Day, you probably never liked them anyway.

bouncingsoul...
have you ever heard of refused, at the drive-in, the clash? How bout Fugazi? Propogandhi?
The only reason my pie chart is mostly metal is because I haven't taken the time to rate the 500 other albums that I have recently listened to.
You have no idea what you are talking about. A concept album is a story. tommy by the who is a concept album. It has a story. Still Life by Opeth is a concept album. it has a story.
An album is not a concept album unless it has a story. if an album having a similar message throughout makes it a concept album, then perhaps rise against could be considered a concept band. All of refused lyrics have political undertones, so the shape of punk to come must be a concept album, if what you say is indeed true.
fucking tool.
also, I love dookie. Its a fun, catchy album. It does not try too hard to be something it is not, like AI and 21st.This Message Edited On 05.17.09
