For once, sputnik's average is correct.

this is probably their second worst album. The line between this and Illud is clear.

Altars is overrated imo. Every song sounds exactly the same.

Altars is more consistent than this, but the banger tracks here kill that whole album. Slime, Dominate, and Dawn are better than anything on Altars.

Altars is overrated imo.
I think the band is kinda overrated in general although they have a couple albums I like.

I think they're an important dm band but their material isn't like top dm

I love me some Morbid and I've really been digging their material lately. I could just never get super into Altars. It just sounds so weak compared to their other material (Illud aside). I'd probably put Formulas above it as well.

I like covenant the most, even though it's their sellout album or whatever people call it.

I like the stylistic choices on here but the production sounds too clean, it would've been cool with murky, raw production. Everything ends up appearing overly calculated. There are good moments & once I swear the vocalist actually put some emotion into his growls, which seemed absent on Covenant.
It's a high 3 for now, maybe forever, depends if I deem it worthy of returning.

the things that bring this down for me are the vox, the terrible sounding kick drums, and that half the songs start out pretty much the same.

I slightly prefer SOME of the vox on this vs Covenant but I don't think it's a strong aspect of these guys in general, really. I dig the general vibe here & feel with better song-writing choices (to prevent things becoming monotonous, as you alluded to with certain tracks starting off similarly) & grimier production I probably would've enjoyed this a lot more.
At this stage I'm confident Altars rules & that Blessed is definitely worth returning to, this & Covenant leave me (mostly) cold - some of those reasons are the same (vox, occasionally monotonous song-writing/riff-ing, production) despite them being very different records.

Is there a heavier riff than Slime? So disgusting.
