Cat Named Virtue is probably the song I’ve listened to the most this year. The trilogy if I’m feeling particularly tough that day.

so pleased he decided to give our virtute a happy ending

Then why does listening to it make me so sad??
|
| |
oh man it makes me oh so sad
in the back of your brain where the memories flicker
and i paw at the synapses, bright bits of string
you should know i am with you, know i forgive you
know i am proud of the steps that you've made
😭😭

the synapses = bright bits of string metaphor is probably one of John's best. so beautiful and devastating in context

I am making a new name for everything. Instead of Winnipeg; I am going to call it Drawapig. Finally a song worthy of charades and John Samson not liking the Guess Who and his city.

It's fantastic. This and Reunion Tour, are fives. I don't think I rated Left and Leaving because it falls off at the end and Fallow the first one have some mis-steps. Still an album full of great songs. I feel like most people don't like Reunion Tour as much as I do. But when I replayed this album some months ago I was just, yea this is a fucking five. It's great.

Yeah Reunion Tour is pretty easily their second best imo, on certain days I like it more than this.

After the song "Left and Leaving" on the album it's just too good. So whatever follows feels like the end of the album for me hehe so I never think of those songs ever. And when I play them, I just think I wish I was listening to Left and Leaving again. The songs before it are so good. This is a Fire Door.... rules. Who ever pines to hear My Favorite Chords.

There's nothing wrong with my Favorite Chords, I coulda picked any song off after t/t. I am playing that song now. I just feel like, I don't remember that being that good where I should disown my Weakerthans fan card. I played it, it's fine. I think the first seven songs with the exception of Everything Must Go is better than it. OK I take that back Everything Must Go is better too.
Darn there goes all my meager credibility down the drain.

while i agree left and leaving and this are 1a 1b i think the first 7 songs on l&l are maybe the weakerthans best run of songs and i think it falls off ever so slightly but quite consistently after that so i agree with both punker and row these are my takes

L&L definitely falls off, but suggesting that it does so on Elegy For Elsabet is a "worryingly" 'huge' ""SKILL ISsue?""

this album’s highlights are pretty well spread out and also pretty clear in general imo (title track, cat, time’s arrow, 10-12)
