Why, because they make intelligent music?
Intelligent music? That's such a lame term. "My music is more intelligent than yours". I mean music can be well thought out or even intellectual, but music is good or bad, not smart or stupid.

Well thought out and intellectual denotes intelligence

not really, well thought out could mean deep or put together well, or well written. i don't really know what i was thinking when i wrote intellectual, but yes i guess that does denote intelligence. even still i still think that intelligent music is not a good way of labeling something.

One of the more boring deftones in my opinion. Saturday Night Wrist is more entertaining.
Though, Elite is awesome. And yeah, everyone says it but Passenger too

By intelligent I meant that they have obviously put a lot of thought into the music and lyrics.
There's a reason why this song sounds this way etc etc, as opposed to just mindless thrashing.
I don't generally refer to anything as intelligent music but that's the only comparison I see between Tool and the tones. And yes, i've read an interview with the band where they list their influences

This album is what should separate Deftones from the nu metal title. I mean, even Adrenaline and Around the Fur aside for a couple of tracks that had rap-like verses to them, they never really sounded like a nu metal band to me. But on this album, they brought a new sound that seperates them from the label they were terribly given. Their influences seem to mostly come from bands like The Cure, Failure, Sunny Day Real Estate meets early hardcore music.

Ah, well, I guarantee that I have made some silly comments to be silly or even comments when drunk. But I mean with stuff I like, I try to provide an argument or an opinion. I am always down with discussions.
