Thrice have evolved. Great album.

sounds like a pretty chill band. Have to check these guys out :thumb:

I changed my rating to a 5 and I don't feel guilty about it...I mean there's just not one bad or even mediocre song to me on either disc.
Plus, having finally listened to The Illusion of Safety, I can see Thrice's progression and I feel like a proud parent watching their kid grow up. Even though this kid still slayed when he was little.

I'm thinking the Air disc will probably be the best of the 4.

Arg I put it pack down to a 4.5. It's not a classic, but it's better than a 4.5. This is probably my favorite 4.5 album.

^total agreement. I want to like them but they are just way to bland and since everyone on this site praises them i think im missing something. I just think they are boring and repetitive. They have a few great tracks and then 20 other tracks that sound kinda like those few great tracks.

They have a few great tracks and then 20 other tracks that sound kinda like those few great tracks. Have you even listened to this album bro? Or observed how Thrice has progressed album to album? They change and evolve constantly, and especially with this album; the point of The Alchemy Index is to represent different elements so the project would be in vain if the songs sounded alike.
EDIT: Wow I sounded like a prick. What I meant was you just need to follow the band closer to see the greatness. Smiles and hugs, I'm sorry for talking to you like an elitist or something. This Message Edited On 02.28.08

I have listened to it quite a few times. The fire disk all sounds alike as well as the Water to their individual disks. I ve listend to a lot of their stuff and i dnt really see this PROGRESSION. Sure they did a concept album with an iteresting topic but it wasn't really anything special imo. Digital Sea-awesome track. Open Water a lot of the same. On the fire side Firebreather and Burn the Fleet are just boring while The Messenger and The Flame Deluge are great.
Progression means they have developed more and are able to make a full album that is unique but fits. Listening to this it's like This is the fire album so we'll play our aggressive songs and we'll just talk about fire so it fits. This is the Water so we'll put these chilled out songs next to each other and as long as we mention water it's a concept.
I didn't see any elitist in your comments I just don't really see this as anything special. Fair to Midland is great though thanks for the recommend i just got the album two days ago and i love it.
I'll smile at you but i don't think i'm ready to hug. This Message Edited On 02.28.08

What albums have you heard? The progression from The Illusion of Safety to this album is unreal. But what makes Thrice so great imo is that even though they've come along way in developing their sound, they've always been solid and pretty original in the post hardcore world.

The Illusion of Safety and Vheissu. I worded my last comment wrong. There is progression but i don't think it's as album-writers if that makes any sense. Thrice is just a band, at least for me, that has some great tracks but whenever i listen to a whole album of theirs a get bored. By progression before i didnt mean as artist but more as writers of an entire piece of music that works together.
They just need to work on making a great album that stays fresh and doesn't sound samey at points. They're just a case of good that doesn't take the risk to be great. At least to me thats the case.
