wow, I gotta hand it to these guys, every album that they release seems to raise the bar. Colors is no exception. however, I am partial to Selkies, the primer and all bodies... still an amazing cd.

Wow, way to generalize and simplify their music so splendidly. That's like saying that Radiohead are stale and formulaic because it's soft... soft.... soft.... soft. Even if Opeth does soft and heavy stuff in most of their songs, their song structures still differ by a lot and each song is extremely recognizable.
A band is stale and formulaic when their style never changes or each song sounds like the other ones.

^Except hardcore is better than you.
As for opeth they're stale and formulaic because they use all of 4 riffs over a 10 minute song. It may work for for a band like Neurosis (I'm not sure if they use that few riffs I've hardly heard any neurosis) but opeth don't do anything interesting like a buildup to make up for using so few riffs.

It works for Neurosis even though you have hardly heard any Neurosis. Riiiiiiiiiiight.....

What I have heard of Neurosis is very good...maybe that's why I think it works?

I wasn't aware that Opeth used only 4 riffs in their songs. I don't know what Opeth you have been hearing. Some of their songs have a lower number of riffs, but there are many more that have a lot more riffs.

ONLY think I would change would be the way he screams. I actually love how he does it, but I think he should use that type sparingly for especially heavier parts. He needs to develop a more 30 seconds to mars mixed with btbam and tdwp scream.

I like his screams, despite the fact that he apparently doesn't have good technique or whatever. I could really care less, it sounds great. This Message Edited On 10.19.07
